Identity Day 2: You are Beloved (Dearly Loved)

October 27, 2020 Nelson Muhire

Listen to the Audio above as you follow in the text below.

Sharon: The year was 1993 and my dad had just gotten a job transfer to Jinja and so the family had to move to Jinja.

I remember, during this time, my parents battled with the decision on which school my sister and I would attend. For a while, we went to a boarding school. But we didn’t like the school very much for a number of reasons. Two terms later, my mother seeing how miserable were in that school, eventually convinced my dad and we were enrolled in another school which was all the way back in Kampala. But remember our family had relocated to Jinja.

The daily commute was difficult and expensive. I vividly recall how my mother would drive us to and from Jinja every day; taking us to school and back home. Never at any time, during the long rides or at home, did she ever complain. She loved us and was willing to sacrifice anything to make us happy and enjoy school even though it cost her a lot.

Nel: Sharon and I are about to make 8 years in marriage. To this day, the one thing I am grateful for is that somebody made the choice to marry me. A lifetime with me is a rather courageous choice… because I’m quite a handful. But she loved me anyway and chose me.

Sharon: Do you know that you are dearly loved by your father in heaven? The Bible says in John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

John 15:13 also says “Greater love has no one than this; to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

Nel. The sacrifice that Jesus made for us was no easy sacrifice. It cost him everything… but he looked at us… looked past all our mistakes, failures and inadequacies, and chose to sacrifice himself for us anyway. Why would he do that? Because He loved us dearly. He took on himself the full penalty for our misdeeds, for our bad choices. He suffered on our behalf so that we could have intimacy with him.

Sharon: What truths have you come to believe? Do you know that you are cherished and Loved? God is crazy about you and He has great plans for you. Our sin separated us from God but Jesus, paid the ultimate sacrifice on our behalf.

“I want you to know that you are deeply loved by God in Christ. As a child and now as a parent, I have come to learn that even in our best moments of showing love; to our children, our spouses, our parents, our families or our friends, You and I are unable to provide the deep satisfaction our loved ones desire or need. I am comforted in knowing that God completely and fully loves us without reservation. Nothing we can do can make him love us less or more”.

He is inviting us to trust Him with our lives. He wants to have intimacy with you. Will you trust him with your life?

Let’s pray together

Good and Gracious Father

Who are we that you are mindful of us?

Thank you for loving us
And thank you for paying our debt
A debt we could never afford
We surrender our lives to you today
And we are trusting you to lead us

Into your everlasting life
In Jesus Name we pray
